Location:

A trauma-informed practitioner is able to recognise when someone may have been affected by trauma and will respond in a way that supports recovery, avoids re-triggering and promotes resilience.

When supporting behaviour change with our clients, navigating the complexities of trauma-informed practice can be challenging, as trauma can often inform a clients’ responses and choices towards change.

This new course will explore the link between the two and aims to develop your skills as a trauma-informed practitioner.  You will explore how to use a trauma-informed framework to enhance your clients’ understanding of themselves and increase their resilience towards making positive choices.

This course will support you to:

  • understand the meaning of trauma, trauma responses and the different definitions of trauma informed practice
  • consider the psychological and physical connections around trauma and behaviour from a whole body perspective and how this should inform our ethos within our practice
  • identify what trauma responses are and how trauma can present in our clients and influence decisions and choices around behaviour change
  • understand the paramount importance of boundaries and how to implement these within the therapeutic alliance in order to avoid re-traumatisation
  • explore the psychological skills required to hold, contain, respond and defuse trauma responses integrating techniques and modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Compassion Focussed Therapy and MBCT approaches
  • reflect on case studies and real life client cases within the context of trauma-informed practice and explore appropriate adaptations and skills that can be applied in practice.
