Sold Out Introduction to Housing Law

Date & Time of Course

  •  9 October, 2024
     10:00 am - 4:30 pm

Location:

A basic understanding of housing law is required by anyone working with clients experiencing housing issues.

This one-day course provides an introduction to identifying the status of clients’ housing arrangements in the private and public rented sectors and will help participants identify associated rights for them to remain in properties if landlords seek possession.

The course will examine the grounds for possession and the discretion of the court for occupiers facing court possession proceedings, together with an examination of the validity of notices.  It will also outline potential changes that may be made under the Renters Reform Bill.

This course will support you to:

  • Recognise why identifying an occupier’s housing status is so important
  • Diagnose an occupier’s security of tenure
  • Advise an occupier about their notice entitlement and whether a notice that has been given is valid
  • Advise an occupier about criteria on which the court can make an order for possession
  • Identify situations where an occupier has a defence to possession proceedings.

Who should attend?

Suitable for new and less experienced advisors and support workers who require a grounding in the key legislation and provisions surrounding the rented sector.
