9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Location: Brighton Venue
This new one-day course aims to build on your knowledge and reflection from BHT Training’s ‘Understanding Trauma (Level 1)’ course and will begin to explore how you can apply practical skills and approaches to support your clients in a more psychologically-informed way.
The course will introduce the framework of trauma-informed practice in a way that aims to support recovery, avoid re-traumatisation, and supports post-traumatic growth and resilience. We will also touch on secondary trauma & compassion fatigue to help shine a light on the importance of supporting a resilient workforce.
Course Aims
- To facilitate practitioners to gain a foundational understanding of trauma-informed practice in line with the Scottish NHS Framework for Trauma Informed Care
- To explore appropriate skills that can be integrated when responding to trauma within the context of supporting positive change and growth.
This course will support you to:
- Build on your knowledge from Understanding Trauma (Level 1)
- Explore the three emotional regulation systems of the brain
- Understand how trauma patterns can present in your clients and influence decisions and change
- Explore the TIP model using the four Rs model, and integration into current practice
- Consider vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and boundaries in practice and how to implement these within the therapeutic alliance in order to avoid re-traumatisation and professional burn-out
- Develop your ‘Trauma-Informed toolkit’ – practical and impactful tools such as techniques for increasing emotional regulation and psychology safety
- Respond to clients in trauma crisis: Affirmation & Distress Tolerance techniques
Due to the sensitive topic of trauma, we invite all participants to ensure they feel well enough (both psychologically and physically) on the day to be able to engage in these conversations and be in a space of professional reflection, learning and growth.
If the course is online, there is an expectation that all cameras will be on throughout the duration of the day and that you will be available to participate in group discussions, practice sessions and breakout groups.
