The prevailing picture of the ‘welfare state’ is one of cuts, austerity, complexity and sanctions.
However, on the side-lines of the actual benefits system is a whole range of under-claimed services, grants, vouchers and discounts that are accessible to people on benefits and low incomes.
BHT’s new Hidden Resources of the Welfare State workshop will cover the most useful of these, and identify who can access them and how to do it.
Ensures you are able to:
- understand the range of resources that are available outside the benefits system, how they are accessed and who administers them
- use internet tools to assist the search and claiming processes
- expand your knowledge of areas such as: help with health and food costs; council tax; debt issues; fuel and water poverty; emergency assistance; help from charities and benevolent funds
- share your local knowledge and network with other professionals
Who should attend?
This is a half day workshop suitable for staff in support roles who need to feel confident and up to date with their knowledge. It will be too basic for people who do regular benefits casework.
