BHT’s two day course is aimed at new advisers and other professionals working with low income clients.
The course will allow time to cover the benefits system fully, and includes a comprehensive guide to Universal Credit as it starts to expand to all claimant groups throughout the country from January 2019.
Ensures you are able to:
- understand the different types of benefits and how they interrelate
- identify the appropriate benefits for all types of circumstance, the criteria and processes for claiming, and how to avoid pitfalls and difficulties
- understand the benefits that relate to disability and vulnerability, such as Employment and Support Allowance and Personal Independence Payment
- feel confident about the main features of Universal Credit and its implications for your clients
- understand the basics of paying for housing costs, and who is affected by issues such as the bedroom tax and benefits capping
- use a range of internet tools to calculate what someone needs to live on, and how that can be achieved, checked or improved
- appreciate the nature of current and proposed reforms, and how their worst effects can be mitigated
