Navigating the complexities of trauma requires specific knowledge and skills. The impact of trauma can significantly affect the emotions, behaviours, choices and outcomes of the individuals we work with.
Developing an awareness and understanding of trauma is the first step in being able to support clients and professionals to work in a safer and more psychologically-informed way.
This 1-day course will support you to recognise the principles and patterns of trauma. Using a strengths-based structured framework, we will also consider ways to adapt practice, in order to support recovery, avoid re-triggering, and promote resilience.
The course will support you to:
- develop your understanding of the principles and patterns of trauma
- recognise different types and definitions
- explore the possible causes of trauma
- understand the signs, symptoms and effects
- introduce the framework of trauma-informed practice
- explore some foundational skills and approaches that can be beneficial when working with trauma
- reflect on your learning and how this can be applied in your role
Please be aware that due to the sensitive nature of the topic there may be triggering or challenging conversations during the training. Please be mindful of your needs before and during the course to ensure that your wellbeing is a priority. You will not be asked or required to discuss personal experiences and we invite everyone to consider their workload/personal commitments following the course to allow time to transition back into practice appropriately.
