Establishing safe and professional relationships with our clients is a fundamental part of support work.  At the core of this are Professional Boundaries.

Boundaries set the parameters which differentiate between a professional and personal relationship and are essential to providing a safe and supportive environment, both to the clients we support and ourselves.

Knowing how to behave professionally and responsibly at work is based on more than common sense.  Lack of awareness of professional expectations can have very serious consequences. This half day course sets out these expectations through the exploration of professional, organisational, legislative and good practice guidelines.

This course will support you to:

  • increase your responsibility and awareness of professional boundaries
  • understand the difference between personal and professional behaviours
  • clearly define what constitutes unprofessional behaviour
  • increase awareness and understanding of vulnerabilities and risk factors
  • understand the limits of confidentiality
  • describe good practice and reflect on your own practice
  • apply techniques to create and maintain healthy professional boundaries
  • understand appropriate action to take if a breach to a professional boundary occurs
  • explore how boundaries outside of work, including online, may affect professional boundaries
